Treading lightly on the environment is something we all try to do – but can you do it without compromising on beauty or elegance when planning a celebration or wedding? Absolutely.
We’ve given it some thought and gathered our favourite ways to make your wedding or event more environmentally friendly – and not just by choosing a marquee.

Lower your carbon footprint
Marquees have a lower carbon footprint than permanent venues. They don’t require foundations or extensive construction, and they avoid materials like concrete and steel, which generate significant carbon emissions during production and transport. Pair your marquee with locally sourced ingredients for your catering and locally grown (not flown) flowers or by asking your guests to share transport to reduce your footprint even further.

Reuse, recycle, repair
Our marquees are designed to be reused for many years. We carefully maintain the canvas so it can be used again and again, reducing the need for new materials. Thanks to their modular design, individual components can be replaced if needed—meaning less waste and more recycling.
Sustainability can be stylish, too. Our collection includes thoughtfully upcycled items that add both character and elegance – like our beautiful washed chairs, which bring charm and a timeless aesthetic to your setting.

Work with nature
Natural habitat is precious. Marquees can be set up and taken down without damaging the land, allowing the space to return to its natural state after the event. We also love the idea of giving seeds as wedding favours or using seed paper for place names and invitations—little touches that can be planted and enjoyed long after the day itself.

Energy-efficient planning
With thoughtful planning, we can help you make your event as energy efficient as possible. LED lighting creates a warm, ambient glow with minimal energy use, and natural ventilation or efficient heating can keep guests comfortable without waste. You can even extend this approach to your catering by choosing energy-efficient appliances and cooking equipment.

Minimise food waste
It may sound simple, but reducing food waste can have a big impact. Offer appropriate portion sizes or a buffet where guests can take only what they need. Work with your caterer to freeze any leftovers—perfect for a delicious reminder of your celebration.
Even your choice of tableware matters. Use reusable plates, cutlery, and glassware where possible, and avoid single-use plastics. If reusables aren’t practical, choose stylish compostable alternatives made from bamboo or wood.

The savings?
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to make your event more sustainable—without compromising on style or elegance. While there’s no universal percentage for carbon savings from sustainable event choices, following the changes we’ve suggested could reasonably reduce your event’s carbon footprint by 50–70% compared to a typical UK wedding that doesn’t prioritise sustainability.
